Capacity building is a fundamental pillar of the Sisters’ Blended Value Project (SBVP). Therefore, it is important to align the content, mode of delivery, precision, and consistency by critically examining the programs for purposes of optimizing the participant learning experiences, led collaboratively by faculty and coaches towards ensuring success and that the participants get the most out of the training and coaching sessions and ultimately, translate knowledge into action.

Based on the above, Strathmore University Business School (SBS) hosted faculty and coaches for a curriculum review workshop on 4th April 2023 aimed at streamlining the content of the programs that will be rolled out this year across the four countries: Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia. This year’s programs will go a notch higher as they will focus on building the capacity of leaders who work at different levels within the various national associations in the four countries under the Association of Consecrated Women in East and Central Africa (ACWECA) region.

The programs will be divided into three main cohorts, each focusing on a distinct category of leaders.

The first program titled Leading and Managing Sustainable Social Enterprises will focus on senior leaders of the congregations including Major Superiors/Mother Generals, Provisional Superiors, Regional Superiors, and Delegate Superiors.

The second program, Managing Social Enterprise Program will focus on those in middle-level management who work closely with the senior leaders. These will include bursar generals/ financial administrators, and provincial /regional/delegate counselors.

While the third program, Foundations of Social Entrepreneurship Management will aim at developing the capacity of Project administrators/managers and project Implementers, who work together with the senior and mid-level leaders and are critical to the successful running and sustainability of the social enterprises.

The program will also include individual and group coaching sessions, aimed at helping these leaders become more effective in developing their teams, maximizing performance, building resilience of their social enterprises, and ensuring that they are sustainable.

The first program, Leading, and Managing Sustainable Social Enterprises took place from 5th to 9th June 2023 in Zambia, followed by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania between 12th and 30th June respectively. This preceded the Trainer of Trainers workshop which took place on 16th June 2023 and the field visit by Conrad N. Hilton Foundation President, to Kenya on 12th July 2023.

The aim of the project is to support Catholic Sisters to transform their social ministries into sustainable social enterprises through developing capacities, supporting networks and information hubs, and building robust financial services. The project is implemented by SBS in partnership with ACWECA and is funded by the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation.
