A momentous occasion unfolded at Strathmore University Business School (SBS) on Friday, 11th August 2023 as more than 100 Strathmore University Alumni converged for a moment of celebration and reflection. The event, a ten-year alumni networking dinner, aimed to commemorate a decade of excellence and camaraderie that has shaped the journey of these accomplished individuals.

Representing the classes of 2005 to 2015, along with the pioneer class of 2016 from Strathmore Law School, the alumni were united in a spirit of shared achievement. The evening resonated with nostalgia as cherished memories were rekindled, and a sense of unity pervaded the air.

Dr. Edward Mungai, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Planning and Development at Strathmore University, underscored the institution’s unwavering commitment to cultivating a robust and dynamic alumni network. This network, he emphasized, is a testament to the university’s vision of fostering connections that transcend time and space. It aims to empower graduates to reconnect, network, and inspire each other, forging pathways that amplify the impact of their collective accomplishments.

The evening’s keynote address, delivered by Eva Muraya, CEO of BSD Group, resonated deeply with the audience. Eva delved into the realm of personal branding, an essential cornerstone of the transformation journey. “Personal branding is the foundation upon which the journey of transformation is built. At its core, personal branding is an exploration of self, a quest to understand one’s unique essence, and the distinctive value it contributes to the world,” she noted.

She further highlighted four pivotal principles that help create a robust personal brand:

Differentiation

Crafting a personal brand hinges on identifying one’s unique value proposition – the singular attributes that set an individual apart from the crowd.

Consistency

A strong personal brand is created and sustained through consistent messaging and representation. Consistency is the beacon guiding how one is perceived by others.

Awareness

Once differentiation and consistency are established, the imperative shifts to fostering awareness. Awareness involves showcasing who you are and the values you stand for.

Sustained Self Improvement

Eva emphasized the importance of continuous self-investment; learning, unlearning, and relearning become vital components in the journey of self-improvement.

The Strathmore Alumni Connect networking events epitomize the university’s commitment to nurturing an ecosystem of support and collaboration. These gatherings provide a platform for alumni to converge, envision, and collaboratively shape a transformative future for Africa. They serve as a testament to the enduring connections and aspirations that define the Strathmore University Alumni Community.

As the evening ended, the resonant message of unity and purpose lingered. The ten-year alumni networking dinner had not merely celebrated the past; it had ignited a collective flame of determination to drive forward, embracing the transformative power of unity and shared aspirations.
