Strathmore University Business School Graduates over 40 Entrepreneurs with Disabilities

Wednesday, 31st May 2023 marked a new beginning for 41 entrepreneurs from Nairobi with disabilities after they successfully graduated from the Entrepreneurship Accelerator Programme for Persons with Disability(PWDs). The graduation ceremony was a culmination of an intensive five-months training Programme which included in class sessions, guest speaker sessions with key stakeholders, a medical assessment camp and business coaching sessions.

The Programme aimed to equip the entrepreneurs with the necessary skills and know-how to help them improve their business management skills to enhance growth and foster sustainability of their businesses. This training further helped in advancing the inclusion and participation of PWDs in entrepreneurship programmes to highlight the significant role they play in contributing to a robust entrepreneurship landscape in Kenya.

The Programme was implemented by Strathmore University Business School (SBS) in partnership with the Association for the Physically Disabled of Kenya (APDK) through the financial support of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH-Kenya.

It always seems impossible until it’s done’ – Nelson Mandela. Dr. George Njenga, the Programme Lead for the Programme, applauded the entrepreneurs for their commitment and drive to learn throughout the five months.

Bernht Lakemier, Programme Director -GIZ Kenya celebrated the participants and encouraged the entrepreneurs to implement the learnings in their businesses. He further encouraged them to share their feedback on the training and guide the implementing partners on any further areas of improvement.

Lissel I Mogaka, Director from the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection represented PS Joseph Motari and in his speech affirmed the government’s continued commitment to empowering PWDs. He also highlighted the various interventions that the Ministry is currently undertaking with the aim of supporting and empowering Persons with Disability.
