Happy Valentine’s day! The season of love is upon us once again. Despite the social-economic underpinnings attached to the day, love always triumphs. Beautiful red roses (mostly), sumptuous meals at exquisite locations, sweet, lovely words of affirmation and elegantly-packaged bars of chocolate seem to be the norm of the day both at the office and at home. This is simply how couples and significant others express their love in an effort to celebrate and deepen their love.
It’s against this background that the Strathmore University Business School’s department of family enrichment organized a special dinner for couples at Radisson Blu in Upperhill, Nairobi. The dinner brought together 19 couples who have undertaken the various courses under the Programme for Family Development banner and other couples in general. The special occasion saw the loved ones share a sumptuous three-course meal, exchange roses of flowers and share memorable conversations and experiences.
To top it all, the dinner provided a platform for the couples to learn Kizomba dance, a popular dance in Angola, facilitated by a couple from the Nairobi Dance Project. Kizomba means “party” in Kimbundu, a Bantu language spoken by the Ambundu in Angola. Kizomba is danced accompanied by a partner, very smoothly, slowly and sensuously, and with neither tightness nor rigidity. Love was indeed in the air.
Later in the evening, the department launched the Programme for Family Development Community which is aimed at building and keeping a network of strong and happy families, encouraging them to be united in their approach to parenting.
