On Saturday, 29th July 2023, we organized an open day for our undergraduate Programmes, providing an excellent opportunity for the participants to learn more about our Undergraduate offering.
Speaking during the event, Dr. Erastus Mbithi, a Faculty Member at SBS, took the participants through the SBS Programmes. “At Strathmore University Business School, we focus on addressing four key areas of the individual to provide a holistic experience: hard skills, soft skills, problem solving skills and technical skills.
Faith Njaramba, a Faculty Member at Strathmore University delivered an insightful presentation on the six persuasion skills outlined by Robert Cialdini. These skills shed light on the factors that influence our decision-making and behavior:
- This skill highlights the human tendency to reciprocate when someone does something good for us. When we receive a favor or act of kindness, we are more inclined to return the favor in some way.
- Commitment and Consistency. This skill emphasizes that individuals who desire something are more likely to be committed and exhibit consistent behavior in pursuit of their goal. Once we make a public commitment or take consistent actions towards a particular objective, we tend to strive to maintain that commitment.
- Social Proof: Also known as social influence, this skill suggests that we are often swayed by what other people do. When we observe others engaging in certain behaviors or adopting particular beliefs, we perceive them as socially acceptable, and this can influence our own actions and decisions.
- The liking skill highlights the power of personal connection and influence. We are more likely to be persuaded and influenced by individuals we genuinely like and have positive relationships with. Our inclination to comply with their requests or follow their advice stems from our fondness for them.
- The scarcity skill centers around the concept that limited availability of goods or services creates a sense of urgency and desire. When something is perceived as rare or in short supply, it is often associated with higher quality or value, leading individuals to pursue it more eagerly.
- The authority skill emphasizes our tendency to follow the guidance and advice of legitimate experts or figures of authority. When credible individuals with expertise in a particular domain provide recommendations or guidance, we are more inclined to trust and comply with their suggestions.
By understanding these persuasion skills, individuals can effectively navigate the factors that influence decision-making and tailor their communication strategies accordingly.
About Our Undergraduate Programmes
Les Bachelor of Commerce (BCOM) Programme provides diverse areas of specialization, including Finance, Accounting, Human Resource, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Management Science, and Tourism. Notably, BCOM is the only course that offers the opportunity to choose a double major as an area of specialization, allowing students to delve deeper into two specific fields of study.
Les Programme de licence en gestion de la chaîne d'approvisionnement et des opérations is designed to integrate supply chain, logistics, operations and digitization. Special emphasis is placed on Production, Logistics, Big Data, Block Chain, Automation and Artificial Intelligence, and how they will impact supply chain and operations management in the near and far future.
Les Bachelor of Financial Services (BFS) Programme aims at unifying the financial services sector by providing a firm foundation in the world of work in financial management, business analytics and skills of people working in the financial sector, microfinance sector, banking sector, financial cooperatives sector and emergent financial services providers in general.
