Last week, the Strathmore Global Institutes (SGI) in Tanzania and Uganda jointly welcomed the first cohort of the East African Regional Management Development Programme (MDP).

This Programme brought together a diverse group participants from the agribusiness sector and the energy sectors in Tanzania and Uganda. The cohort included professionals with varied backgrounds, such as engineers, veterinarians, agronomists, operations managers, and procurement experts.

The first module, themed around Strategy, Negotiation, and Finance for Non-Finance Managers, was delivered through a blended learning approach. Participants from Dar es Salaam joined online sessions, while those in Kampala engaged in face-to-face interactions. This hybrid format allowed for a flexible and inclusive learning environment, accommodating participants from different locations.

A standout feature of this module was the Finance for Non-Finance Managers segment. Many participants, coming from non-financial backgrounds, appreciated how the faculty demystified complex financial concepts. Through engaging in-class work sessions, breakout activities, and relevant case studies, they learned how a solid understanding of finance can significantly enhance leadership and management decision-making.

Looking ahead, the programme will continue with a second hybrid module before culminating in a joint session hosted in Nairobi at Strathmore University Business School. This structure underscores SGI’s commitment to providing comprehensive and accessible leadership training.

By bringing together diverse professionals and fostering a collaborative learning environment, SGI is poised to play a crucial role in developing great African leaders and driving the continent’s economic and social transformation.

The Management Development Programme (MDP) is a comprehensive transformational leadership programme tailored for Middle-Level Managers who are seeking to steer their organizations through adaptive challenges, lead innovation and thrive in the new normal in the backdrop of digitalization, artificial intelligence, remote work, and other disruptive shifts.
