Last evening, the Strathmore Business School community came together for the highly anticipated 2nd Edition of the SBS Alumni Presidents’ Roundtable, held in partnership with KCB Bank Group and Mastercard. The event convened distinguished alumni, industry leaders, and partners for an evening of thought-provoking conversations centered on the theme Transforming Africa.

The roundtable provided a dynamic platform for reflection on leadership, purpose, and the role individuals and institutions must play in shaping Africa’s future. Through engaging discussions and shared experiences, participants explored what it means to lead in a rapidly evolving world and how collective action can drive meaningful and sustainable transformation across the continent.

One of the evening’s most memorable reflections was inspired by the story of the hummingbird, a powerful metaphor reminding leaders that change begins with the willingness to do one thing more. While others may stand by and watch challenges unfold, true leadership lies in stepping forward and contributing, however small the action may seem.

The story underscored a critical leadership lesson: transformation is not always driven by grand gestures or sweeping interventions alone. Rather, it is often built through consistent acts of service, courage, responsibility, and a commitment to making a difference where one can. The conversations challenged participants to recognize that every contribution matters and that collective impact is only possible when individuals choose to play their part.

As discussions on leadership and purpose unfolded throughout the evening, the event served as a timely reminder that everyone has an opportunity to contribute toward building a better society. Much like the hummingbird in the story, leaders are called upon to take initiative, act intentionally, and inspire change through action.

The colourful evening culminated in the official launch of the Alumni Travel Card, described as “a small card with a big story.” The launch symbolized not only innovation and enhanced alumni engagement, but also the continued commitment to creating meaningful value and lifelong connections within the SBS alumni community.

The 2nd Edition of the SBS Alumni Presidents’ Roundtable once again reaffirmed the power of dialogue, collaboration, and purposeful leadership in advancing conversations that matter for Africa’s transformation.
