Business Advisory Services Providers (BASPs) are key stakeholders in the SME sector, a sector that is a key driver of growth, innovation an employment, representing more than 90% of the businesses in Kenya. Moreover, BASPs play a critical role in structuring complex deals, mobilizing capital and optimizing the inclusive growth business models required for Kenya to achieve its national and county-level development goals.
It is against this backdrop that the SBS and USAID- KIM partnered to host a thought leadership event for Business Advisory Services Providers (BASPs).
Speaking during the event, Waringa Kibe, the Chief of Party made a strong case on the key role of BASPs in structuring complex deals, mobilizing capital and optimizing the inclusive growth business models required for Kenya to achieve its national and county-level development goals.
The event also featured a panel session with; Dr. Wilfred Marube, the immediate former CEO of the Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency; Clement Kitetu, DA Value Stream Consultant (DAVSC), Moses Nyabila, Deputy Chief of Party at the USAID’s Kenya Investment Mechanism, Patrick K. Kiptoo, the President of Boma Tax and Consulting LLC, Alexander Ezenagu, Founder and Chief Consultant at the Sapient Consulting Group and Njoroge Ng’ang’a, the Executive Director of Progressive Heritage.
The panelists shared their experience and insights on how BASPs can improve their value offerings to tap into the advisory market for SMES, the potential of a BASP hub to facilitate business collaborations and the potential for certification, accreditation, business association and self-regulation in facilitating future growth of the BASPs sector.
