On Saturday, 16th October 2021, 30 students from the MSc. Development Finance Programme-Class of 2018 visited Equity Bank for a field visit study.
This field trip aimed to expose our students to various operational areas of Equity Bank and the banking industry in general. The students were accompanied by Dr. David Mathuva, the Academic Director of the MSc. Development Finance Programme.
Speaking during the field trip, Equity Bank Kenya Managing Director, Gerald Warui took the students through the Bank’s business model and operation. “Equity Bank operates using a twin-engine model, an economic engine driven by the banking subsidiaries and a social engine driven by our social impact arm, Equity Group Foundation, ” he said.
The students also had an interactive session with the Equity leadership team as part of their coursework. During this session, the students got an opportunity to ask questions in several areas:
- The nature of support, Equity Bank offers MSMEs
- The different types of financing provided in collaboration with development financial institutions
- Support to development finance projects such as real estate and infrastructure & the regulatory framework in this area
- Equity Foundation and its contribution to development
