The journey of the Advanced Management Programme (AMP) Class of 2025 began on a high note on Monday, 7th April 2025, bringing together senior executives from Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, South Sudan, and Zimbabwe for an enriching week of learning and leadership transformation.

One of the standout sessions focused on leadership and ethics, facilitated by Dr. George Njenga, Founding Dean of Strathmore University Business School. Dr. Njenga underscored ethics as the cornerstone of enduring leadership, challenging participants to anchor their decisions in integrity and purpose.

Setting the tone earlier in the module was a compelling session on decision-making led by Dr. Edward Mungai, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Planning and Development. He offered a framework for making bold, value-driven decisions in today’s increasingly complex business environment.

As the week unfolded, participants explored the dynamics of stakeholder engagement with Dr. Julius Kipngetich, Group CEO of Jubilee Holdings Limited. Drawing on rich personal experience, he described leadership as a journey that moves from transactional to aspirational relationships, emphasizing emotional intelligence, consistency, and trust as critical enablers during change.

The module culminated in a powerful CEO Roundtable that brought together John Gachora, Group Managing Director and CEO of NCBA Group; Mary Wangari Wamae, former Group Executive Director at Equity Group Holdings Plc; and Dr. Eng. John Mativo, Managing Director of Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO). In an engaging and candid exchange, the panelists shared valuable insights drawn from their leadership journeys. They discussed the importance of clear and authentic communication with stakeholders, the nuanced challenges of mergers and acquisitions—especially when aligning systems and culture—and the strategic considerations involved in regional expansion. They also emphasized the role of trust in building high-performance teams and in driving organizational transformation. One speaker captured the essence of the session with a memorable line: “If you can’t trust people to show up, how can you trust them to lead?”—a reminder that trust is not just a leadership trait, but the bedrock of any successful enterprise.

As the AMP Class of 2025 concludes its first module, participants carry forward not just knowledge, but a renewed sense of purpose, ethical clarity, and strategic foresight. With eyes now set on module two in Cape Town, the journey continues—fortified by a rich blend of academic rigor, real-world wisdom, and transformative leadership dialogue.
