MAKANDA KIOKO
International Financial Inclusion Specialist
Makanda has dedicated her career to ensuring that financial systems work for everyone, from local entrepreneurs, especially those in rural areas, to displaced communities seeking stability. With over 25 years of technical leadership in international organizations, she works beyond traditional banking, championing inclusive investment models across Africa, the Middle East, Asia, the Pacific, Latin America & the Caribbean. Her major initiatives addressed financial inclusion in fragile, conflict and forced displaced contexts: Chad, Liberia, Angola, Mozambique, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, Palestine, Tajikistan, Papua New Guinea, Timor Leste, Haiti, Bosnia, Myanmar. Having served as microenteprise officer for UNDP/UNIDO in Kenya, Makanda’s experience bridges the broader global technical lessons and a deep commitment to East Africa’s social enterprise ecosystem.
Makanda holds a B.A from the University of Nairobi, Kenya and M.A. from the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), Johns Hopkins University, U.S.A.
