Empowering Leaders in Malaria Management: Strathmore University’s Impactful Training in Ghana and Mali

During the month of May, the Institute of Healthcare Management at Strathmore University Business School trained two cohorts of the Leadership, Management and Governance Program (LMG), one in Ghana and another one in Mali.

The training consisted of leaders spearheading Malaria management in Ghana and Mali, a total of 35 participants for each country.  These training session followed the Cameroon cohort which kicked-off phase two of the Program.

The LMG Program addresses key challenges in malaria eradication, with modules focusing on leadership, innovation, health financing, human resources, supply chain, and information management. By integrating these critical areas, participants understanding of the complexities of malaria elimination and acquire practical skills to drive efficient and sustainable interventions.

This Program is further committed to fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange. Through interactive sessions, real-life case studies, and field trips, participants will gain practical insights and strategies to enhance their leadership, management, and governance skills. Virtual modules further facilitate ongoing learning and collaboration, allowing participants to engage with peers and experts from diverse backgrounds and experiences.

Funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), this Program aims to equip leaders with the essential skills needed to transition from malaria control to eradication through tailored, holistic, and innovative leadership development. Further, the Program aims to empower leaders and managers of National Malaria Control Programmes (NMCPs) and their allies in Ministries of Health to effectively manage malaria and other vector-borne disease programs within their country contexts. Phase 2 focuses on deepening the impact by targeting not only senior leaders at the national level but also, leaders at sub-national, regional, and district levels. This expansion ensures a broader reach and greater effectiveness in malaria elimination efforts across the continent.
