Vue d'ensemble
This COIL course will focus on developing a deeper understanding of health systems as they are across the globe with a focus on the US and Kenyan Health systems, and the (possible) re-adaptation of the same considering the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Students will be expected to work together in cross-cultural teams to solve a problem in a specific disease state or health system issue that affects both countries.
Objectifs du programme
The course will be structured to achieve 4 objectives:
- Culture:
Learn about each other’s cultures and business practices - Healthcare System:
Understand both countries healthcare systems and challenges - COVID-19 Impact:
Evaluate COVID-19’s impact on local health systems and on the business of healthcare. Evaluate each countries response, current status and preparedness;and interrogate how innovation could help address the constraints of health systems iron triangle on both countries COVID-19 responses - Healthcare Challenge:
Collaborate in small groups to resolve a contemporary healthcare challenge – epidemic and pandemic preparedness and response, drawing on the experiences of the Covid-19 pandemic in both countries.
Participants cibles
This programme is targeted towards UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School students and SBS students currently enrolled for the MBA Healthcare Management programme at No cost.

Session 3: (a) Health system politics, economics and policy-making. (b) The Health system in the US and in Kenya
Session 4: Comparative health system challenges and opportunities
Session 5: Health systems and Innovation: understanding healthcare innovation (forward/backward, grassroots/open/reverse, push and pull), the innovation context in Kenya/Africa and the US, building an innovation ecosystem, global diffusion of innovations
Session 6: Accelerating the scale and pace of innovation/Diffusion of healthcare innovation: Connecting the dots

Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL)
Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) is an approach that brings students and professors together across cultures to learn, discuss and collaborate as part of their class.
Professors partner to design the experience and students partner to complete the activities designed. COIL becomes part of the class, enabling all students to have significant intercultural experiences within their course of study.
Faculté
The programme is delivered by a high-powered faculty team from both Strathmore University Business School (SBS) and UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School (UNC).
Through the integrated expertise, participants gain a comprehensive view of healthcare systems strengthening especially during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. The distinct needs of healthcare systems in both Kenya and the USA will also be considered.
