Les sœurs catholiques s'intéressent à la foire de Canton pour stimuler l'entreprise sociale après avoir participé à la formation SBVP

Faith-based social enterprises, rooted in religious values, address social, economic, and environmental challenges while sustaining their mission through business practices. By blending spiritual principles with entrepreneurial strategies, these initiatives create sustainable solutions that uplift communities and inspire change. This transformative approach is vividly embodied in the journey of the Little Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi, a congregation based in Nairobi North, Kenya. 

What began as a modest garment-making initiative producing church and school uniforms has grown into a profit-making social enterprise. “When we started, we had very little money and were making serious losses,” shared one of the Sr. Esther Waithera. “But through the SBVP training at Strathmore University, we learned essential skills like record-keeping, budgeting, and planning. These have been transformative for us.” 

Today, their enterprise employs 15 people and generates a monthly surplus of Kshs 200,000 ($1,500), enabling reinvestment into their projects and ensuring long-term sustainability. The SBVP training equipped the sisters with critical business skills, from leadership, financial management to marketing, streamlining their operations and improving efficiency. 

Their next strategic step is attending the Canton Fair in Guangzhou, China, one of the world’s largest trade exhibitions. By sourcing materials and equipment directly, they aim to reduce production costs, making their products more affordable without compromising quality. This will increase their customer base and ensure the sustainability of their social enterprise. Their participation in the fair would reflect their commitment to innovation and growth, principles honed during their SBVP training.
