Earlier today, we had the privilege of hosting the second Chief Financial Officers (CFOs) roundtable in partnership with Finance Professionals KE. The event, themed Insights and Inspirations, brought together some of the most influential minds in the financial services sector to discuss the core attributes, skills, and experiences that define successful CFOs.

This second edition of the roundtable discussions provided a comprehensive look at what it takes to thrive in the critical role of CFO. During the session, participants got the opportunity to learn from and interact with seasoned experts such as Risper Genga Ohaga, Group Chief Financial Officer at East African Breweries PLC (EABL), Nelly Kiogora Toroitich, Finance Director at Unilever and Ishmael Opande, Group Financial Officer at Ler.

Further, the forum delved into the challenges and opportunities facing CFOs in today’s dynamic business environment. From navigating regulatory changes to leveraging data analytics for better decision-making, the role of the CFO has never been more complex or more critical. The conversations also highlighted the importance of continuous learning and the ability to navigate the ever-changing business landscape.

The event highlighted three key challenges faced by CFOs:

Regulatory Compliance

To be successful, CFOs need to keep up with ever-evolving financial regulations and ensuring compliance across all operations.

Technological Disruption

Technological Disruption is going nowhere and to be successful, CFOs need to adopt and integrate new technologies and staying ahead of digital transformation trends.

Economic Uncertainty

Managing financial risks and developing strategies to mitigate the impact of economic volatility.

In terms of opportunities, CFOs can leverage data for data-driven decision making, leading the charge on corporate sustainability initiatives and talent development for the next generation of finance leaders.

Engaging with the Next Generation of Finance Leaders

A unique aspect of this roundtable was the inclusion of students from the Bachelor of Financial Services Programme at Strathmore University. Their presence underscored the importance of bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world application. The interaction between seasoned CFOs and aspiring finance professionals created a vibrant exchange of ideas and inspirations.

By bringing together experienced leaders, aspiring professionals, and industry experts, the CFOs Breakfast roundtable continues to build a robust network of finance professionals dedicated to excellence and innovation.
