Transforming Leadership: Highlights from the Women in Leadership Programme Uganda

Last week, we welcomed the 2024 cohort of the Women in Leadership Programme in Uganda, featuring diverse leaders from Vision Group, Pride Microfinance Ltd, Watato Church Ministries, and Southgate Properties Limited. This programme is designed to equip women with the skills, insights, and confidence to thrive in their careers and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

The first day kicked-off with a thought-provoking session led by Dr. Kuthea Nguti focusing on self-awareness. Titled, Deepening My Authentic Self-Knowledge, this session encouraged participants to reflect deeply on their personal values, motivations, and leadership styles. Through guided discussions, participants embarked on a journey of self-discovery that laid a solid foundation for their leadership development. The day concluded with a session by Dr. Rita Kabatunzi on bold communication. This session sought to equip participants with essential strategies for impactful communication, emphasizing the importance of clarity, influence, and presence in their professional interactions. By honing their communication skills, participants were empowered to express their ideas confidently and assertively in various settings.

Day two focused on gender intelligence and gendered negotiation, facilitated by Paul Ouma. Participants gained valuable insights into understanding the perspectives and behaviors of different genders in the workplace. This engaging session provided practical strategies for navigating gender dynamics effectively, fostering a more inclusive and supportive work environment. The final session of day focused on personal branding, where participants explored the significance of cultivating a strong personal brand as a leader. This workshop highlighted the power of branding at a leadership level and inspired attendees to develop habits of excellence that reflect their unique identities and values. Participants left with actionable strategies to enhance their personal and professional presence.

On day three, Candi Okoboi focused on personal and professional growth strategies and navigating organizational politics. These sessions were designed to empower participants to navigate their career paths with confidence and clarity as well as manage workplace dynamics and relationships. The final session was facilitated by Dr. Kuthea Nguti and offered powerful insights on aligning personal goals with leadership aspirations, enabling attendees to create actionable plans for their futures.

The Programme concluded with an inspiring session featuring Josephine Mukumbya and Dison Okumu, who shared their experiences of breaking the glass ceiling and overcoming workplace barriers. Their insights encouraged participants to challenge societal limitations and reinforced the importance of resilience and determination.
