The Strathmore Leadership Academy launched in September 2018 is aimed at developing leadership skills of Strathmore employees through the Leadership Excellence Acceleration Programme (LEAP). 8th May 2019 saw the pioneer class graduate from the programme. In attendance was Prof. John Odhiambo- Vice Chancellor, Strathmore University and Dr. Angela Ndunge- Deputy Executive Dean Strathmore University Business School (SBS), among other senior faculty and staff.
Carl Wagner, the Director SBS Regional Academy, gave an overview of the programme where he explained the core objective and origin of the academy. The programme seeks to develop employees in the early to middle management levels, all within the norms and values of Strathmore and to do so in a manner that engenders the organizational culture
“We are celebrating a powerful and potent instrument that will influence student experience at Strathmore University” said Prof. Odhiambo. He went on to remind the graduands of the 2019 University theme which is excellence, “this is just one of the values that form the culture of Strathmore but if we do ordinary things in an extraordinary way, it becomes great, he added. LEAP aims to assist team leaders and managers in their personal development to gain skill, competence and ability to manage their tasks effectively.
The graduation culminated with an award ceremony whereby one of the participants was named as the overall winner of the programme’s action learning project. The participant’s work suggests a study on ‘student experience in the School of Tourism and Hospitality’ which will be further explored and acted upon.
