Earlier this year, Prof. Lilac Nachum, a visiting Professor from New York State University and a Fullbright scholar, taught an exciting Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) course as part of my International Business Management curriculum for the Master of Commerce Programme. This COIL course was taught in partnership with the Rennes School of Business (RSB) in France.

The essence of the COIL experience is to provide students with opportunities to work collaboratively with peers from another country online. In this course, our students partnered with RSB students to develop a strategic plan for the entry of a non-African company into Africa. They were tasked with justifying the company’s expansion into Africa, selecting specific countries for entry, choosing the most suitable entry mode, and developing a positioning strategy for the company.

The Master of Commerce students described the experience as ‘joyful’, ‘highly rewarding’, and ‘a good learning experience’, among other positive remarks. They expressed great satisfaction with the opportunity to work closely with international peers, noting that it provided a uniquely enriching learning experience.

The Master of Commerce (MCOM) is a programme designed for individuals who wish to advance academically and professionally in business science, with specializations in Management Accounting and Control, Forensic Accounting and Investigations, Human Resource Management, Finance, Marketing, International Business Management, Management Science and Strategic Management.
