Last week, students undertaking the Master of Management in Agribusiness Programme visited Harper Adams University in the United Kingdom for their international module. Harper Adams University is one of the UK’s foremost agricultural education and research institutions. This immersive experience was more than a study tour; it was a deep dive into the global dynamics shaping modern agribusiness.

Over five transformative days, the students explored various topics to enrich their understanding of global food systems and leadership in complex agricultural environments. These included topics such as: global agribusiness trends, agricultural technology, cultural intelligence and power dynamics, international trade touching on a variety of topics such as currencies, foreign exchange risk, and investment leverage, as well as leadership, management, and navigating complex systems

MMA’s unique blend of analytical, behavioral economics, and business capabilities, contextualized within the ever-evolving relationship between land, agribusiness, and global trade. As demands on global food systems rise — driven by climate change, population growth, and the need for sustainability — Programmes like MMA are critical for equipping future agribusiness leaders with the skills and mindset to lead responsibly.

A module highlight was a visit to the UK Agri-Tech Centre, a world-class hub for agricultural innovation located at Harper Adams. The Centre is at the forefront of driving a productive, profitable, and sustainable Agri-food system — the very pillars of the future of farming.

The students also visited J.M. Bubb & Son, a local potato and flower farm in Newport, UK. As one of over 250 growers supplying McCain, the farm showcases how even niche producers are part of vast global value chains. The flower arm of the business, Shropshire Petals Ltd, is equally impressive, known for providing dried wheat for all Olympic and Paralympic bouquets during the 2012 London Games.

The module would not be complete without a visit to Old Trafford, the iconic home of Manchester United, added a cultural and historical dimension to the experience. Beyond its significance as the UK’s largest club football stadium, the venue symbolized the global power of brand, legacy, and leadership, which are equally vital in agribusiness.

As the international module drew to a close, we celebrated our students’ journey — one that broadened their global outlook, sharpened their leadership skills, and deepened their commitment to sustainable agribusiness.

The MMA Programme continues to distinguish itself as a learning experience that blends business acumen, agricultural entrepreneurship, and interdisciplinary insight. For executives looking to lead in one of the world’s most vital sectors, this is more than a degree — it’s a mindset for transformation.
