The Undergraduate Open Day at Strathmore University kicked off inspiringly, with Ms. Astuti Sharma, the guest speaker, sharing her personal journey. She moved the audience by recounting how her parents initially pushed her to pursue medicine but ultimately discovered her true passion was elsewhere. Her key message was straightforward yet powerful: “Never give up.” She encouraged the students to find the courage to follow their own paths, embrace change, and chase what truly resonates with them rather than simply going along with what others expect.
Michael Karanja and Max Bruce Kukubo, alumni of the BSc. Supply Chain and Operations Management Programme and the Bachelor of Commerce Programme respectively, took to the stage to share their experiences at the University. They painted a vivid picture of the opportunities available—international trips, laptop provisions, mentorship programs, and the university’s strong commitment to community service and excellence. Their enthusiasm illustrated Strathmore’s nurturing environment, where students are well-prepared to make impactful contributions in their future careers.
Mary Aminga, the Co-Academic Lead for the BSc. Supply Chain and Operations Management Programme captivated the audience with her dynamic presentation. She stressed logistics’s pivotal role in achieving business success, highlighting that effective resource management often sets successful companies apart. Through real-world examples, she explained how supply chain management has evolved into a competitive advantage in our globalized economy. Mary also addressed modern supply chains’ challenges, including geopolitical issues, climate change, and international trade complications. She reassured the potential students that the Programme would equip them with essential tools to tackle these challenges and emerge as transformative leaders in the business world.
Dr. Erastus Mbithi, the Programme Academic Lead for the Bachelor of Financial Services, posed thought-provoking questions: “Why are we here? Why do we seek education?” He then dove into the importance of financial literacy, focusing on money management, resource allocation, and strategic investments. His message emphasized the need for a robust economic sector, which relies on skilled financial professionals. Dr. Mbithi urged students to take control of their financial futures early by embracing saving and investing. “Saving is not enough,” he cautioned. “You need to push yourself to invest in the financial markets.”
During the Bachelor of Commerce session, Josphat Manani, the Co-Academic Lead of the Programme, elaborated on the crucial role of trade in fostering economic growth. He explained that commerce is more than just buying and selling; it’s about creating job opportunities, driving financial expansion, and ensuring sustainable practices. He encouraged aspiring students to look beyond traditional trading models and to consider how digital transformation is redefining commerce. “Businesses today don’t just operate in markets; they thrive in interconnected economies,” he noted. Josphat also underscored the importance of understanding accounting, describing it as the backbone of any successful organization. He stressed that having a grip on financial statements and business operations is essential, no matter what field one pursues.
The Undergraduate Open Day was more than just an information session; it was a transformative experience. Students left feeling inspired, better equipped, and genuinely excited about their academic futures. Strathmore University showcased once again that it is more than just an educational institution; it is a launchpad for future leaders, innovators, and change-makers.
