In today’s rapidly changing business environment, leveraging coaching knowledge and skills has become more crucial than ever. As businesses evolve, there is a growing need for professionals to embrace change and harness their coaching expertise to create value for themselves and their clients.
At Strathmore University Business School, we have embedded coaching courses within our curriculum, recognizing the transformative power of effective coaching. But how can we take this to the next level and serve society by nurturing individuals who know their values and prioritize others? As the saying goes, “a good coach can change a game, but a great coach can change a life.” Always strive to be a great coach.
Speaking during International Coaching Week Summit at Strathmore University Business School, Coach Betty Mwaura shared insights on how to monetize coaching skills, drawing from her personal experiences and successes. She emphasized that while some lessons are heard, others are learned, and some are caught. “Remember, the essence of effective coaching is being just one step ahead of your audience,” Coach Betty noted.

- Diverse Specialization: There is a growing need for specialized coaching services with is in line with the increase in demand and visibility of the professional.
- Ethical and Regulatory Considerations: There is increased focus on ethical practices and regulations in the coaching sector.
Coach Betty then shared with the participants some practical strategies on how coaches can monetize their skills:
- Identify your target audience and your niche. Understanding who you want to serve is the first step in building a successful coaching business. Whether your focus is on executive coaching, life coaching, health and wellness coaching, or another niche, clarity on your target audience allows you to tailor your services to meet their specific needs.
- Develop signature programmes or packages for your audience. Create unique coaching programs or packages that deliver clear value to your audience. Your value proposition should address the specific challenges and goals of your clients, setting you apart from other coaches in the market. Signature programs can include one-on-one coaching sessions, group coaching, or comprehensive coaching packages that offer ongoing support.
- Diversify your revenue streams. To maximize your income potential, consider offering a variety of services beyond one-on-one coaching. This can include group coaching sessions, workshops, training programs, seminars, online courses, and retreats. Diversifying your offerings not only increases your income but also allows you to reach a broader audience and create multiple touchpoints for clients to engage with your services.
- Build an online presence. Use social media and other online platforms to increase visibility of your coaching offerings.
- Invest in continuous learning. You need to stay updated with the latest coaching techniques and industry trends, to do this, you must ensure that you embrace continuous learning.
Monetizing your coaching knowledge and skills involves understanding your market, continuously learning, overcoming challenges, and collaborating with others. By adopting these strategies, coaches can create lasting value for themselves and their clients, contributing to the growth of the coaching industry and the betterment of society.
