While healthcare facilities are often owned and managed by healthcare practitioners, the full range of necessary skill sets is neither taught as part of medical, pharmacy or nursing education nor acquired through experience.
The Managing Healthcare Businesses (MHB) programme builds on a combination of the established strength of business leadership, management and entrepreneurship courses offered at SBS/SU as well as unique healthcare modules that provide deeper insight into the unique elements and issues of the healthcare industry in Africa.
The programme also emphasizes key dimensions of applied business practice in healthcare, provides a broad knowledge and skill base as well as a range of practical tools and concepts and imparting practical relevance to the participants through a variety of methods inherent in the content and methods of the programme. The curriculum has been designed to address continent-wide practices and needs.
Further, the programme, with the support of credit funders and lending institutions, provides an opportunity for participants to apply for and access funding for facility improvement and/or business expansion.
The programme seeks to provide participants with a solid theoretical and practical knowledge of core business, managerial, entrepreneurial and financial skills as a means towards strengthening and improving the survival and growth of their healthcare businesses.

This programme is targeted towards owner-managers of existing health care facilities and healthcare and non-healthcare oriented persons who are interested in starting healthcare-related businesses.
Participants are carefully selected to enhance a great mix of executives from various industries and regions with relevant knowledge and experience to boost the quality of the discussions and group work.
The programme is offered in 4 modules in six months. Each module runs for 4 days a week.
Participants are tasked with projects to improve healthcare delivery in their organizations.
