The COVID-19 global pandemic forced organisations to “unfreeze” and “re-freeze” in new ways including remote and hybrid working, increased focus on employee wellness, more digitization, and the need to address rising employee expectations. The fourth industrial revolution on its part has rendered certain jobs redundant while at the same occasioning the need for different skill sets.
The post-covid mass resignations as well as the changing nature of work have also given rise to a shortage of skills in some industries making the voice of employees that much stronger in defining the kind of work they want to do how, where, and when they want to do it. And it doesn’t stop there. There’s the Ukraine war and indications by economists that a global economic recession is looming. It would appear then that the two things that are certain are change and uncertainty.
With all these shifts it is easy to understand why the expectations on the Human Resource (HR) professionals and the functions they lead are rising. Indeed, today the place of HR professionals can be likened to what the place of Finance professions was during the Global Financial crisis.
The Strathmore 2023 HR Summit seeks to encapsulate these changes and provide some practical interventions. In the words of Diane Gherson, former Chief Human Resources Officer at IBM and now Senior Lecturer at Harvard Business School, “This generation of HR leaders has been appointed by history to define the workplace of the post-industrial era” .
Below is the list of topics to be discussed:
The HR Summit intends to provide a platform for these HR Leaders to define this post-industrial era workplace jointly and collaboratively.
