What to Expect from Our Upcoming Annual SME Conferences and Expo 2026

Across Africa, social enterprises and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are increasingly powerful drivers of social and economic transformation. From creating jobs and improving livelihoods to providing essential services in underserved communities, these enterprises continue to play a critical role in advancing inclusive and sustainable development. Yet despite their growing contribution, many enterprises still face significant barriers that limit their ability to grow, scale, and sustain their impact.

 Recognising these realities, the Sisters Blended Value Project (SBVP), through Strathmore University Business School, is set to launch a Regional Conference Series across five countries: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, and Zambia. The series forms part of the university’s ongoing commitment to strengthening enterprise ecosystems and supporting social enterprises in becoming more resilient, market-ready, and sustainable.

 Although each country conference will be tailored to the unique realities, opportunities, and challenges of its local enterprise ecosystem, all five events will be united by a common continental agenda. According to Lucy Kuria, SBVP Regional Programmes Manager, the conference series will focus on strengthening enterprise resilience, improving market readiness, expanding access to finance, fostering innovation, and promoting sustainable growth. Beyond the discussions, the conferences will offer participants a dynamic platform to learn, build networks, exchange experiences, forge partnerships, and engage with practical solutions to drive long-term enterprise success.

 As enterprises navigate rapid digital transformation, climate uncertainty, and shifting market demands, the need for dialogue and innovation has never been greater. “To remain competitive and impactful, enterprises must move beyond survival-oriented approaches and embrace long-term growth strategies,” says Anne W. Njoroge, SBVP Project Manager. The conference provides a platform for experts to explore solutions and share insights on sustainable enterprise development.

 The conference series will be held under the theme, “Sustaining Impact in Social Enterprises and SMEs: Building Resilience in Finance and Market Readiness.” The theme reflects the growing need for enterprises to strengthen their internal capacity while also improving their ability to access markets, attract investment, leverage technology, and respond effectively to environmental and economic challenges.

 Participants can expect rich discussions, expert-led presentations, practical workshops, and networking opportunities designed to strengthen enterprise performance. Key topics will include enterprise financing, digital transformation, market access, climate-smart business practices, leadership, innovation, and ecosystem collaboration. The conferences will also facilitate direct engagement with financial institutions, investors, and development partners, helping participants better understand available opportunities and support mechanisms.

 The anticipated outcomes of the conference series are both practical and transformative. Social enterprises and SMEs are expected to strengthen their resilience and improve their readiness to compete in evolving markets. Participants will gain exposure to practical digital and technological solutions that can improve operational efficiency and business performance. Enterprises will also explore ways to integrate climate-smart and environmentally responsible practices into their operations to enhance sustainability.

As preparations continue across the five participating countries, the SBVP Regional Conference Series promises to be more than just a gathering of enterprise leaders.
