Strathmore University Business School (SBS) has been distinguished for its exceptional social impact and sustainability efforts in the latest Positive Impact Rating (PIR) Edition 2024, announced at the UN PRME Global Forum in June. SBS joins a prestigious group of 77 business schools from 30 countries worldwide that participated in this year’s rating, achieving Level 4 status, which designates it as a ‘Transforming School’ within the PIR framework.

The PIR, conducted by students and for students, reflects a global initiative where students assess their business schools based on perceived positive contributions to society. Beyond economic impact, the rating emphasizes the role of business schools in fostering societal benefits and preparing responsible business leaders.

Under the guidance of the Strathmore University Student Council, student representatives facilitated the PIR survey across campus, garnering responses from [number] SBS students this year. This robust student engagement underscores SBS’s commitment to incorporating student feedback and perspectives into its strategic initiatives.

The PIR survey evaluates business schools across 20 questions categorized into seven impact dimensions within three core areas: Energizing, Educating, and Engaging. Schools receive an overall score that positions them across five distinct levels, reflecting their developmental progress and commitment to social impact.

Prof. Thomas Dyllick, PIR Founder & Member of the Supervisory Board, emphasized the evolving role of student voices in shaping educational standards and choices. “The PIR offers prospective students an alternative criterion for selecting their business school, while institutions leverage it to measure and communicate their transformative efforts,” he remarked.

Developed in collaboration with global NGOs such as WWF, Oxfam, and UN Global Compact, and supported by international student associations like oikos, AIESEC, and Net Impact, the PIR underscores a collective effort towards advancing sustainability and societal responsibility in business education.
