Participants of the Managing Global Supply Chain Programme Visit Mitchell Cotts for an Industry Immersion

Earlier this month, participants of the 2024 Cohort of the Managing Global Supply Chain Programme visited Mitchell Cotts, a leading logistics, freight forwarding, and supply chain management company. This immersive experience offered a unique opportunity to bridge classroom knowledge with real-world applications, providing a deeper understanding of the intricacies of global supply chains.

Mitchell Cotts is a key player in the logistics sector, specializing in the seamless handling of imports, exports, and cross-border goods transportation. Its pivotal role in managing both perishable and non-perishable goods makes it a cornerstone of international supply chain operations.

The visit was enriched by insightful presentations from senior leaders at Mitchell Cotts, with James Rareiya, Operations Director at the organization, providing an overview of the company’s operational strategies, highlighting how they ensure efficiency, control, and end-to-end management of supply chain activities. Abdul Bonaya, Head of Sea and Air Freight Forwarding, delved into the complexities of freight forwarding. He explained the critical processes behind handling sea and air freight, showcasing the company’s innovative approaches to overcoming logistical challenges in international trade.

This visit gave participants the opportunity to observe key areas of Mitchell Cotts’ operations, gaining hands-on exposure to how the company maintains its industry-leading standards. The visit covered two core areas of managing supply chains:

Warehousing Excellence. The participants toured the warehouses to see how goods are stored, sorted, and prepared for shipment. The visit highlighted the role of cutting-edge storage systems and meticulous inventory management in ensuring smooth operations.

Freight Forwarding Processes. A walkthrough of freight forwarding operations provided insights into the import and export processes for both perishable and non-perishable goods. Students learned about the regulatory and logistical requirements for international trade, observing how goods are prepared for transportation.

This visit was an integral part of the Managing Global Supply Chain Programme and gave the participants a firsthand look at the complexities of logistics and supply chain management. By engaging with industry professionals and observing real-world applications, the students gained practical insights that enhanced their academic understanding and professional aspirations.
