Strathmore University Business School (SBS) congratulates Rosemary Okello-Orlale, Director of the Africa Media Hub at SBS on being honored with the 2026 Media Lifetime Achievement Award at the14th Annual Media Excellence Awards (AMEA), hosted by the Media Council of Kenya.
This award is Rosemary’s testament to a career defined not by personal ambition alone, but by a deep and unwavering commitment to building a media sector that works for everyone.
Her legacy speaks for itself. Over decades of dedicated service, Rosemary has helped lay the very foundations of professional journalism in Kenya. From her pivotal role in the formation of the Media Council of Kenya and the Kenya Editors Guild (KEG), to championing the Code of Conduct and Practice of Journalism in Kenya. Rosemary has consistently chosen the harder, more meaningful path of institution-building over individual recognition.
Further, her contribution to the Kenya Media Policy that ignited the national debate on Media Pluralism, her input into the Kenya Broadcasting Bill 2004, the Kenya Communications Amendment Bill 2008, and her instrumental role in shaping Articles 33, 34, and 35 of the Kenya Constitution 2010 are enduring gifts to this nation. These are not small achievements, they are the architecture of a free, accountable, and pluralistic media environment in Kenya.
It is this same spirit of purpose and impact that Rosemary continues to bring to her role as Director of the Africa Media Hub, where her work remains a driving force in shaping the future of media across the continent.
Congratulations, Rosemary. This award reflects a life spent in purposeful service, and a reminder to every professional that showing up with integrity, day after day, truly makes a difference.
