Strathmore University Business School (SBS) was host to The South African Red Cross Society (SARC) during a board training held on 4th and 5th March 2019. Those in attendance included Chairman of the Board, Adv Mothibedi Panyane and the acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Lindel Papiah along with other SARC board members.
SARC is a membership-based organisation with members across South Africa and like all Red Cross Societies, it is established under the laws of its country as an independent organisation with the objectives of working in the humanitarian field.
Despite all its past challenges SARC now has an opportunity to turn around its internal operations with support from Red Cross partners and its government. They have appointed a new board that is being supported to deliver on its mandate of enhancing oversight and growth of the SARC. It is in this context that SBS came in to assist as part of the peer to peer support SARC received from the Kenya Red Cross.
The main objective of the training was to support the SARC board explore strategies and approaches to strengthening good governance and accountability as well as understand the role of the board through engagement with corporate governance best practices.
The customized solutions division of executive education at SBS offered bespoke developmental programmes and customized consulting solutions for the SARC team to ensure that we address their unique and specific needs. The SARC board members graduated on 4th March 2019, we hope to see a positive outcome from the training.
