Josephine Kibe, the former Executive Education Director at Strathmore Business School and lecturer at the School of Accountancy, Strathmore University, successfully defended her doctoral dissertation on the 26th of November, 2012 at Fordham University, USA and is now Dr. Josephine Kibe.
Dr. Kibes PhD focused on Economics with a specialization in Financial Economics and International Economics. Her dissertation was titled Development of a Credit Scoring Model for the Small and Micro Enterprise Sector, Case of Equity Bank. Her research is crucial given that access to credit is important to small businesses as they play an important role in the economy, as outlined in Kenyas Vision 2030. Therefore, SMEs that are eligible for credit should have access to the credit. However, there is still a need to protect the financial institutions granting the loans from potential defaulters.
The doctoral program was rigorous as it comprised of comprehensive exams in the major areas such as Micro and Macroeconomics and the specialization areas. The course also required mastery in at least two statistical softwares to aid in research work.
I am grateful to God for His blessings and grace and to my family for their support and encouragement. I am also very grateful to Dr. James Mwangi (CEO, Equity Bank) for the opportunity to work in the summer at the bank and for his mentorship. Thank you Strathmore for all the support, prayers and goodwill, said Dr. Kibe.
