A Glance at the Great Africans’ Getaway

SBS held a getaway for its alumni, their families and peers, on the 27th -29th September, courtesy of the SBS Alumni Association.

This getaway, the first of its kind created a great opportunity for participants to share knowledge, have a weekend of playing golf among other activities, all in an atmosphere of fun and networking with fellow alumni, business executives and friends representing different organizations and sectors. The three-day getaway kicked off with a host of renowned speakers and experts in their respective areas of specialisation. Themed ‘Devolution and Business: Opportunities to Harness’, Hon. Billow Kerrow – Senator of Mandera County and Chair of the Finance Committee in charge of Devolution & Planning gave an address on ‘Devolution 101’ and what it means for the business man/woman. Hon Josephat Nanok Governor of Turkana County took the participants through a session on oil and gas and the opportunities Kenya has to harness with the latest findings in the county. Sylvester Kasuku Director General of LAPSSET covered on KONZA and the LAPSSET projects intriguing minds on what Kenya has set in place for Vision 2030. The next day consisted of a morning panel discussion by top speakers such as Patricia Ithau, MD L’Oreal, Dr. Laila Macharia, Vice Chair of KEPSA and Dr. Noor Ali, Council Member of Kenya Dental Association, together with Director General of Vision 2030, Mugo Kibati and the speakers of Friday evening.

The highlight of the getaway was none other than one of Africa’s sought after entrepreneur Mr. Ali Mufuruki the chair/ CEO of Info Tech, who challenged participants through a session of transformational leadership creating opportunity for an interactive and knowledge filled transformational experience, covering on his ideas of Africa’s Top 5 Needs.

The participants were then able to enjoy an afternoon of Golf and other outdoor activities leading into the night with a Gala dinner celebrating the beginning of the Great Africans’ Getaway. Click here to watch some highlights of his talk.
