On Friday, 30th June 2023, USAID’s Kenya Small Business Development Centers (Kenya SBDC) launched an entrepreneurship training for youth in agribusiness in Kisumu County. This training program is a result of the collaboration of the County Government of Kisumu and Kenya SBDC to implement the Kisumu County Youth In Agribusiness Strategy for 2022-2027.

Through this training, Kenya SBDC, through the Kisumu Small Business Development Centers, will train 500 youth to exploit existing opportunities in the agriculture sector, nurture entrepreneurial skills and knowledge, and help their agribusiness ventures to grow.

Agriculture and fishing are major contributors to Kisumu’s GDP at 26 percent and are some of the key sectors for wealth generation, job creation, and increasing household income when viewed from its contribution to the Country’s GDP.

This training will not only benefit the youth by offering them a pathway to sustainable livelihoods but will also contribute to the overall economic growth of the county and the country. By investing in the agriculture sector and supporting youth entrepreneurship, the County government and the Kenya SBDC are working towards creating jobs, increasing household income, and driving wealth generation in Kisumu County.
