Between 10th and 12th February 2025, Strathmore Global Institute Uganda (SGI Uganda) trained directors from Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) in a Custom Programme dubbed Board Readiness Programme. This three-day intensive Programme was designed to equip board members with essential governance skills, enhance their leadership capabilities, and empower them to drive impactful change within the corporation and beyond.
The programme commenced with deep reflections on self-assessment and self-insight, fundamental elements of strong leadership. Guided by the dynamic and thought-provoking Thomas Mundia, the participants examined their leadership styles, strengths, and areas for growth. The day concluded with an engaging discussion on stakeholder management, a crucial skill for navigating complex business environments.
Day two kicked off with Josephine Mukumbya leading an insightful session on the distinct yet interconnected roles of the board and management, emphasizing collaboration, accountability, and strategic oversight for organizational success. Kellen Kariuki, Associate Dean, Executive Education at the Strathmore University Business School (SBS), later delved the art of preparing effective board packs and mastering boardroom etiquette—essential tools for fostering professionalism and efficiency in governance.
The final day was a high-energy, hands-on experience as participants engaged in an immersive Board Simulation, expertly facilitated by Kellen Kariuki. Drawing from her extensive expertise in governance and leadership, she not only guided the session but also inspired and challenged participants to think strategically and respond decisively in boardroom scenarios. The session was marked by lively discussions, problem-solving exercises, and a shared commitment to driving meaningful change.
The Programme concluded with a memorable graduation ceremony, marking the culmination of an enriching and transformative journey for the participants.
