Strathmore University Business School Alumna Named African Banking CEO of the Year 2022, Tanzania

Strathmore University Business School congratulates Ruth Zaipuna, the Chief Executive Officer, NMB Bank Tanzania on her recent award as the African Banking CEO of the Year 2022 (Tanzania). The award was in recognition of her credentials in spearheading NMB Bank Plc and for her pivotal role in uplifting the banking industry .

Ruth began her career in 2002 at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), where she specialized in audit for over a decade. She then moved to Standard Chartered Bank where she served as the Executive Director of Finance and Chief Financial Officer. She then moved to NMB Bank as Chief Financial Officer in June 2018, after which she was appointed acting CEO in 2019 and later confirmed in the CEO role in August 2020.

Besides her current role, Ruth is also an Independent Non-Executive Director for Tanzania Portland Cement Company Limited (TPCC), the leading cement-producing company in Tanzania and listed on the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange.

Ruth is an Associate Certified Public Accountant (ACPA (T). She holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance and a Bachelor of Commerce (B. Com) Degree in Accounting, both from the University of Dar es Salaam. She is also an alumna of the CEO Apprentice Programme – Tanzania.

About the CEO Apprentice Programme (CAP) – Tanzania

In a bid to support efforts under the Tanzanian Development Goals 2025, the CEO Roundtable Tanzania (CEOrt) partnered with Strathmore University Business School (SBS) to develop and deliver the CEO Apprenticeship Programme (CAP). This flagship leadership Programme aims to identify talented Tanzanians through rigorous mentorship and coaching sessions and prepare them to become Tanzania’s future leaders. CAP is a senior-level executive development Programme run by SBS in partnership with CEO Roundtable Tanzania. This Programme aims to develop Tanzanian CEOs and company directors in a move by the country to develop local leaders and rely less on ex-pats.
