This week marked a significant milestone for leadership development within Uganda’s financial industry. Strathmore Global Institute – Uganda (SGI-Ug), in partnership with the Uganda Bankers’ Association (UBA), successfully delivered the inaugural Leadership Programme for Executive Directors of member financial institutions.
The two-day programme brought together top executives for an immersive experience of deep reflection, peer learning, and strategic dialogue. The sessions provided a rare opportunity for Executive Directors to exchange ideas on corporate governance, executive leadership, and the realities of decision-making at the highest levels.
The sessions were facilitated by Dr. Caesar Mwangi, Executive Dean, Strathmore University Business School (SBS), Kellen Eileen Kariuki, Associate Dean, SBS, Susan Wamae, a highly skilled Executive Coach at SBS and Anthony Kituuka, Executive Chairman at Novetat Group and a Faculty Member at SBS. The facilitators drew from their extensive practical experience to challenge participants to reimagine leadership, strengthen governance practices, and confidently navigate complex organizational dynamics.
In his opening address, UBA Chairman Julius Kakeeto underscored the realities of leadership at the top, noting that while it appears lucrative, it can often be “lonely, stressful, and harsh.” He emphasized that this programme is a critical platform for peer-to-peer learning, enabling Executive Directors to gain new perspectives from world-class trainers and Professors of Practice. “This is an opportunity to explore emerging governance issues, benchmark with peers, and reflect on personal and professional leadership journeys,” he said.
This pioneering initiative is more than a training programme; it is a strategic investment in leadership excellence. By creating a space for executives to strengthen governance, manage stakeholder relationships, and adapt to a rapidly changing financial landscape, SGI-Ug and UBA have set a new benchmark for leadership development in Uganda.
The Strathmore Global Institute – Uganda, remains committed to co-creating impactful learning experiences with industry stakeholders. This inaugural programme is a testament to that commitment, and we are proud to partner with Uganda Bankers’ Association in shaping the future of executive leadership in the country.
