SBVP Empowers Sisters, Accelerates Equality

As the world celebrates International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025, the spotlight shines on the unsung heroes driving social, economic, and sustainable development: Catholic sisters. This year’s theme, “Accelerate Action,” could not be more urgent. The World Economic Forum warns that at the current pace, gender equality won’t be achieved until 2158—five generations from now. But Catholic sisters are not waiting. Through initiatives like the Sisters Blended Value Project (SBVP), these women are breaking barriers, building sustainable institutions, and creating a ripple effect of change that transforms communities worldwide.

The SBVP is not just another development project; it is a groundbreaking movement redefining the role of Catholic sisters in modern society. By equipping them with leadership skills, financial literacy, and collaborative networks, SBVP is empowering sisters to become strategic leaders, not just service providers. From education and healthcare to environmental conservation and economic empowerment, these women are tackling systemic challenges head-on, proving that sustainable development starts with empowered women.

For decades, Catholic sisters have been at the forefront of social change, running schools, hospitals, and community programs. However many congregations have struggled with governance, financial sustainability, and leadership succession. Through SBVP´s targeted training in leadership, financial management, and project planning, sisters are gaining the tools to run their institutions more effectively and sustainably.

One of SBVP’s most impactful strategies is its emphasis on collaboration. By connecting sisters from different congregations and regions, through conferences and webinars, the program fosters a sense of unity and shared purpose. These networks become platforms for innovation, where ideas are exchanged, best practices are shared, and joint projects are born.

SBVP also bridges the gap between sisters and external stakeholders, including development agencies and financial institutions. By ensuring sisters have a seat at the table, the program amplifies their voices and recognizes their critical role in shaping a more equitable world.

Financial sustainability remains a significant challenge for many congregations. Relying on unpredictable donor funding can hinder long-term planning and growth. SBVP’s Integrated Financial Inclusion pillar is changing the game by helping sisters establish sustainable financial models and develop income-generating activities.

As SBVP enters its next phase, the focus is on scaling impact. Phase 3 will expand capacity-building programs, strengthen research and data collection, and deepen collaborative networks. The goal? To ensure sisters are not just spiritual and social leaders but also powerful agents of economic and institutional transformation.
