Earlier this month, through the SBS Uganda Leadership Development Academy, we graduated over 50 executives from three leadership Programmes: The Senior Management Development Programme, Management Development Programme and Women in Leadership Programme -Uganda.

The graduating participants had successfully completed the specific leadership Programmes which equipped them with life-long learning along with leadership and management skills from the different industrial visits, faculty interactions, class sessions and peer interactions.

The graduation ceremony was graced by Dr. George Njenga, Executive Dean, Strathmore University Business School, Hon. Victoria Ssekitoleko, former Minister for Agriculture as the Chief Guest and Dr. Robin Kibuke, Chairman SBS Advisory Board Uganda.

Dr. Njenga feted the graduating participants and emphasized the importance of service with purpose while encouraging the participants to apply the knowledge acquired for the greater good of society.

In her remarks, Hon. Ssekitoleko encouraged the participants to engage in life-long learning. She noted that after 10 years, half of what one knows is obsolete and the other half forgotten hence the need to constantly equip oneself with new knowledge if one wishes to remain relevant.

Dr. Kibuka urged the participants to focus on diversity within the workplace, especially in the Executive Committees and at the Board level. He implored them to read voraciously and keep up with current issues, be agile and innovative in walking the talk. He further emphasized working in teams and the need for servant leadership with no dominant types but collegial approaches and team performance appraisal rather than individual appraisals and rewards.

The three leadership Programmes offered the participants a comprehensive transformational learning experience preparing the executives to assume responsibilities at the highest level as they lead their companies and institutions to achieve sustainable competitive advantage. The Programmes also integrated key management concepts and best practices to develop strategic thinking and leadership skills as well as an integrated view of the business landscape in relation to the market dynamics.
