Strathmore Business School (SBS) was recently included in the Global Positive Impact Rating (PIR) 2021 program for Business Schools and was rated as a level four Business School.
A level four rating means that the Business School is transforming students with a positive impact culture, embedded in governance and systems, with visible results and progress in many impact dimensions. Among the Schools that made it to the rating for 2021, SBS was the only Business School from Africa.
This rating was based on the feedback given by the students directly to the rating agency. The top schools in this exercise were rated as level five, the score attributed to pioneering schools with unique, sustaining global leadership progress in all impact dimensions. The rating advocates for identifying Business Schools that are best for the world rather than those that are best in the world.
The results for the PIR 2021 rating were announced during the UN’s 2021 Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) Global Forum. Antonio Hautle, the Executive Director of the UN Global Compact Switzerland said, “Business Schools can be a force for good, and this is strengthened by students who are the next generation of business leaders. The PIR supports business schools to prioritize responsible management education – UN Global Compact and PRME principles strongly support these ambitions.”
Business Schools are traditionally seen to serve students by developing their management competencies and to serve business organizations by providing them with educated talent, insights from research, and continuous education for their staff. Business schools thereby support business and the economy. Providing a positive impact on society has not been considered core to business schools. Still, demands for it have steadily increased in the past decade, as exemplified by the UN Sustainable Development Goals. This new business school rating responds to these demands.
