Last evening, we had the pleasure of welcoming the Executive MBA students from IESE Business School, Spain, for the Doing Business in Africa Programme. This is an intensive, week-long programme designed to provide participants with a deep understanding of the unique opportunities and challenges of conducting business on the African continent.
The programme began with a memorable evening where the executives, representing 18 nationalities and various IESE Business School campuses around the world, gathered for an exclusive dinner at Botanica Kitchen and Gin Bar in Nairobi. This opening event facilitated meaningful networking and the exchange of ideas, setting the tone for a week of insightful learning and collaboration.
Speaking during the opening session, Dr. Caesar Mwangi, Executive Dean, SBS, delivered an inspiring message on the importance of embracing challenges to achieve transformation. He likened this journey to climbing a mountain, where the ultimate destination is the summit. “Make use of the resources available to make a change. We are the change; if we don’t stand up for our own continent, no one else will,” Dr. Mwangi emphasized.
He also highlighted the crucial role of leadership in driving business success, stating, “a progressive, steady leadership makes a big difference in business.” Dr. Mwangi stressed the need for collaboration with other continents to prosper and transform Africa, urging the participants to identify and understand the unique structures of doing business in East Africa, from starting up to expanding market reach and becoming market pioneers, achieving specific objectives such as increasing market share, improving operations, and resolving insolvency issues are vital for success. “As we look forward to the rest of the week, we are confident that the DBAP Programme will provide invaluable insights and foster a greater understanding of Africa’s business landscape,” Dr. Mwangi concluded.
The Doing Business in Africa Programme is designed by SBS in partnership with IESE Business School. The programme is structured to immerse students in the realities of the African business landscape with the students engaging in a series of class sessions and industry visits designed to familiarize them with the distinct aspects of business in Africa. These sessions will further be enriched by in-depth case study discussions and negotiation exercises, conducted alongside Strathmore University Business School (SBS) MBA students, fostering a dynamic learning environment.
The SBS MBA for Executives Programme is best suited for individuals with at least 2 years of managerial experience and are looking to broaden their knowledge and expertise. This Programme helps them develop their talent and harness competencies necessary for the next level by unlocking their inner potential to discover new horizons. We offer two modes of learning for the MBA for Executives Programme: Evening and Modular.
