Between 1st and 5th September 2025, participants of the Programme for Management Development (PMD) embarked on an enriching journey to GIBS Business School (Gordon Institute of Business Science), Johannesburg for their highly anticipated International Module.
This immersive week brought together academic depth, practical exposure, and experiential learning, designed to sharpen leadership skills and broaden perspectives in today’s complex business environment.
The module’s design struck a balance between rigorous academic sessions and hands-on experiences. Participants took part in business simulations, which honed their decision-making and problem-solving skills under pressure. They also explored themes of diversity and inclusivity, engaged with South Africa’s economic and political landscape, and looked ahead at the transformative role of digital innovation in business and society.
Beyond the classroom, a township immersion offered participants a powerful opportunity to connect theory with lived realities, providing a deeper understanding of the social and cultural contexts in which businesses operate.
A standout feature of the module was the company visits, which allowed participants to interact directly with industry leaders and gain practical insights into global and regional best practices. At KFC, they explored global strategies in customer experience and operational excellence within the fast-paced food industry. A visit to Standard Bank Group provided a closer look at how Africa’s largest bank is advancing digital transformation while championing inclusive finance. At Johnson & Johnson, participants gained valuable perspectives on healthcare innovation, corporate social responsibility, and the role of global health players in shaping local impact. Finally, at DSV – Global Transport and Logistics, Midrand, they experienced how a multinational logistics giant contributes to trade facilitation and economic growth across Africa..
These interactions reinforced the importance of adaptability, innovation, and responsible leadership in navigating today’s interconnected global economy.
The International Module reflects the shared commitment of Strathmore Business School and GIBS Business School to nurture transformative leaders for Africa. By combining academic knowledge with practical exposure, the PMD programme empowers participants to translate learning into impact within their organizations, industries, and communities.
The Programme for Management Development (PMD) is designed to empower forward-looking managers with leadership skills that are essential for both personal growth and organizational impact. It prepares participants to step into roles of greater responsibility by sharpening their strategic thinking, decision-making, and people-management capabilities.
