On 24th and 25th May 2023, we hosted the Pamoja Partner Summit, an event that brought together participants from over 20 African universities and institutions of higher learning to discuss potential synergies and collaboration.
The Summit was hosted by Strathmore University and supported by Notre Dame International, the Kellogg Institute for International Studies, the Pulte Institute for Global Development, and Notre Dame Research, to establish the Pamoja network. The Pamoja network will be a consortium of partners that can support research, teaching, and engagement across the network and position the respective entities to compete for grants through sponsored programs.
Prof. Izael De Silva, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation at Strathmore University, highlighted the importance of collaborations and partnerships for institutions of higher learning.
About the Pamoja ND Africa initiative
The Pamoja ND Africa initiative aims to establish and strengthen partnerships between the University of Notre Dame and academic and non-academic institutions, research centres, individual researchers, scholars, students, and policymakers on the African continent.
TheInitiative was launched out of the Provost’s Office as part of Moment to See, Courage to Act, an initiative at the University of Notre Dame that emphasizes collaboration, interdisciplinary studies and research, and an ambitious resolve to confront complex global challenges and makes the world a better place through reflection, learning, and innovation.
By the end of the two-day summit, the Universities present had zeroed in on potential areas of collaboration in research, teaching, student exchange programs, capacity strengthening and exchange among the partner institutions.
