Dr. Julius Kipng’etich, an alumnus of The Effective Director (TED) Program at Strathmore Business School was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Uchumi Supermarkets Limited. Dr. Kipng’etich, who formerly worked as the Chief Operating Officer of Equity group, previously worked as the Chief Executive at the Kenya Wildlife Services for eight years. During his tenure, he revived KWS, which exemplified his ability to turn straw into gold.
It has not been all rosy for the longest serving supermarket group, as the company battlestumultuous financial and management struggles. Task lies upon Kipng’etich’s shoulders as he takes over Uchumi in a bid to reawaken the sleeping giant, increasingly facing competition from both local and foreign firms who are eyeing the formal retail industry.
Dr. Kipng’etichhas served at the board level for the Kenya Tourism Board, Kenya Forest Service Board, Police oversight Board, Moi Girls’ Eldoret, Starehe Girls’, Starehe Boys’ Centre, Kenya Tea Development Authority and the Kenya Red- Cross Society.
“Failing to deliver on the basis of merit, in its simplest translation is giving room for mediocrity. All it takes is a transformative leadership approach, a strategic plan, and a visionary outlook in all the duties we undertake,” remarked Kipng’etich during the guest speaker wrap-up session for the Senior Management Leadership program at Strathmore Business School earlier this year.
