Wanjiru Waithaka founder of Fun Kidz Limited and an Owner Manager Program (OMP) alumna, class of 2014, got acknowledged by the First Lady of United States during The White House Summit – on The United State of Women dinner on 14th June 2016.
Wanjiru, popularly known as Ciiru was attending the United State of Women Summit in Washington D.C which was held in collaboration with the Goldman Sachs 10,000 women initiative. Ciiru’s company, Fun Kidz is one of the beneficiaries of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 women initiative which provides women entrepreneurs with the financial capability to grow and expand their businesses.
During the summit dinner, First Lady Michelle Obama congratulated women who work tirelessly to improve the livelihoods of their families and communities, remarking that, “…Efforts like these do not just boost Women’s balance sheet; they transform how women see themselves and the impact they have in their communities.” First Lady Michelle Obama is known for her global initiative in improving access to education to girls and women through her Global Network, #Let Girls Learn. Applauding companies and individuals who support such initiatives to empower girls, she acknowledged the efforts of Ciiru Waithaka, calling her by name and through a lovely embrace, giving a synopsis of the great work Ciiru has been doing.
Ciiru has been actively involved in entrepreneurship conventions, among them Global Entrepreneurship Summit launched at Strathmore Business School in 2015.
Ciiru Waithaka’s Fun Kidz has not only gown in capacity, but also in community service-based programs. Through her Go Tech Boot Camp, Ciiru teaches children from disadvantaged backgrounds about technology and innovation. So far, she has mentored over 350 local children.
