Executive Coaching in the Wake of Coronavirus

  Apr 3, 2020

It is nearly impossible to avoid the news of the day – and for the overwhelming majority of us, also nearly impossible to change it. For the doctors, the nurses, and all the healthcare professionals currently in the frontlines in the war against Coronavirus, however, the burden can feel especially crushing.

Strathmore University has a wealth of experience over years offering executive coaching for the healthcare sector in the country. We remain cognizant of the pressure and risk currently facing our healthcare professionals in the face of the Coronavirus pandemic. We appreciate that our healthcare professionals require all the support and reassurance they need to minimize the mental stress they are facing, do their jobs, recharge, be safe, and remain alive.

What is Coaching?

According to the International Coach Federation (ICF), coaching is partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. It is a life-changing experience that helps people tap into their potential, unlocking sources of creativity and productivity through this guided process. Coaching utilizes inductive listening and powerful questioning where the coachee, being experts in their fields, can come up with their creative solutions.

Expected coaching benefits

Coaching will help you reflect on the facts of COVID-19. There is a lot of information around the world and in many sites on the reality of this virus. The risk of infodemic in which misinformation spreads is higher now. As a healthcare professional you may find that your motivation for attending to patients may be greatly hampered by wondering whether you are the next statistic.

A coach will partner with you to reflect on the facts of the disease, appreciating the reality and how to remain focused. A certified coach is one who has received training on listening skills, some up to the fourth level which entails an attentive presence, clarifying and interpreting meaning, providing empathy and acting generatively.

Coaching will offer you a safe space for trust and confidentiality. Here, you can release all the difficult emotions and with the help of a coach, chart a path to a different way of responding to crises.
