On Wednesday, February 15th 2023, USAID’s Kenya Small Business Development Centers program paid a courtesy call to the Deputy Governor, Kisumu County, H.E. Dr Mathews Owili, to update him on the program progress and ultimately sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to deepen engagement. Among those present from his administration was Mr George Omondi, CEC Member for the Department of Finance, Economic Planning, and ICT (E-Government) Services.
His Excellency, Dr Mathews Owili, applauded the Kenya SBDC team for such a noble move aimed at empowering MSMEs and affirmed his support to ensure the successful implementation of the program.
“There is a need for the county to partner with like-minded organizations to provide proper service delivery by creating self-sustainable and scalable business models focused on the needs of the MSMEs,” said H.E. Dr Mathews Owili.
The meeting culminated with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the County Government of Kisumu and Strathmore University. The partnership seeks to empower MSMEs in the County by training and facilitating access to finance and markets as business advisory support.
Kisumu County is among the six counties implementing the Kenya SBDC program, which aims to empower MSMEs to increase their productivity and profitability. Learn about the Kenya Small Business Development Centers Programme here
