Title: From “Grass to Grace”: Maasai Kajiado Women Dairy Co-operative Society’s Milk for Sustainable Livelihoods in Drylands
Author: Simon Wagura Ndiritu and Sitonik Reuben Olkishoo1

Brief Synopsis

On a hot mid-morning Monday, 23rd January 2023, the Chairlady of the Maasai Kajiado Women Dairy Co-operative Society (MKWDC), Agnes, turned to her Board of management (Board) to raise a question she had been waiting all week to pose:
“Well, ladies, are you with me in this new venture? Is it a ‘go’? Shall we get into steer fattening and feeds business and scale our co-operative operations by processing milk? I strongly feel that the big step needed is on feeds. Together we have to think critically on how the co-operative is going to survive the aftermath of the ravaging drought and what our next step towards self-sustainability will be.”
