In August 2024, 23 women leaders from Diageo embarked on a transformative journey through the Women Leadership Development Programme (BLOOM)—a custom executive training Programme designed to cultivate leadership excellence within Diageo.

The programme brought together women leaders from across Diageo in eight African countries—Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Nigeria, Seychelles, South Africa, Ghana, and Cameroon—providing them with an intensive, high-impact learning experience tailored to enhance their leadership capabilities.

The first module of the programme kicked off virtually in August 2024, followed by the second module in September 2024, also virtual. The learning experience culminated in the final module, which was delivered in person at Strathmore University Business School (SBS) in Nairobi. This structure ensured that participants gained both theoretical insights and practical leadership skills, fostering cross-border collaboration and shared learning experiences.

Throughout the programme, participants engaged in leadership coaching, strategic decision-making, and personal development sessions, equipping them with the skills needed to navigate complex business environments and drive meaningful change within Diageo and beyond.

The programme culminated with a vibrant graduation ceremony and dinner held on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Radisson Blu Hotel, Upper Hill.

Speaking during the graduation ceremony, Mapula Wanjau, HR Director, Africa at Diageo, provided an insightful overview of Project BLOOM, highlighting its impact on women’s leadership development and the strides made in fostering gender diversity and inclusion within the organization.

The keynote address was delivered by Jane Karuku, Group Managing Director & CEO of EABL, who emphasized the importance of women in leadership and the role of continuous learning in driving business success.

As they step into the next phase of their leadership journeys, these women are poised to make a lasting impact within Diageo and beyond—championing inclusivity, driving business success, and inspiring the next generation of female leaders across Africa.
