Electricity Regulatory Authority Board Retreat: A Strategic Review on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and Audit and Risk

The Strathmore Global Institute Uganda recently organized a retreat for the board members of the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA). The choice of Lake Victoria Serena Resort in Kigo as the venue provided a serene and inspiring atmosphere for the participants.

The retreat focused on two essential areas: Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG), and Audit & Risk. These topics are increasingly important for organizations in today’s business landscape. By engaging in productive and insightful discussions, the participants gained a deeper understanding of these critical areas, allowing them to chart a clear direction for ERA’s operations.

It is particularly noteworthy that Dr. Sarah, the ERA Chair, expressed recognition and appreciation for the training delivery. Her commendation of ERA as a proactive client reflects the organization’s commitment to staying ahead and embracing best practices. Embedding the concepts learned on risk and ESG into the 2023-2024 work plan and strategic document showcases ERA’s dedication to making these principles integral to its operations.

The retreat covered a wide range of topics related to ESG and audit & risk. By enhancing the board’s understanding of ESG principles and emphasizing their importance, ERA is positioning itself to incorporate ESG into its governance practices effectively. The sessions also focused on strengthening board oversight of ESG risks and opportunities, highlighting the relationship between board governance and risk management, internal controls, risk mitigation strategies, the audit committee’s role in risk management, and board-level approaches to risk assessment and compliance.

The sessions further encouraged active participation and practical application of the knowledge gained, ensuring that the insights gained during the retreat can be effectively implemented within ERA’s operations, ultimately driving positive outcomes for the organization.
