On Wednesday, 19th October 2022, we hosted the first ever Directors’ Breakfast event,  bringing together more than 50 board directors from both public and private sectors.  The event aimed to create a forum where the board chairs and other directors in public sector boards can have conversations of the importance of good leadership of public sector boards and how that in turn affects our nation’s competitiveness.

In his keynote address, the Director General, Kenya Vision 2030 Delivery Secretariat, Mr. Kenneth Mwige noted that an efficient, effective, equitable, and ethical public sector is vital to the successful implementation of policies, programmes and projects outlined in the Kenya Vision 2030 and its Medium-Term Plans (MTPs).

From the discussions, a collaboration discussion was born between Strathmore University Business School and the Kenya Vision 2030 Secretariat. The aim of this collaboration is to undertake monthly meetings aimed at accelerating thought leadership and discussions of ideas onKenya 2.0 which will take place at the newly launched Ideas Centre at Kenya Vision 2030  and at Strathmore University Business School.

Speaking during the event, John Ngumi, Board Chair, Safaricom PLC noted that leadership and governance is the difference between performing and non-performing entities. And that although good governance is the life-blood of state corporations, it is not the only aspect that ensures their success.

About the Leading Public Sector Boards Programme

Leading the board of directors in the public sector is a role that calls for tact, great wisdom and sensitivity. The leader will need delicate and tough hands to navigate mixed and sometimes conflicting interests and contractual responsibilities else there is dramatic loss of reputation and stability as the leader shoulders the blame.

This Programme is designed for board chairs of public sector boards. Learn more about it here
