On Thursday, 9th February 2023, Strathmore University Business School (SBS) and Capital Business School, Ethiopia officially launched a partnership to offer executive education training in Ethiopia. Through this partnership, the two institutions will support each other and collaborate to establish a well-recognized centre for the provision of executive education in Ethiopia.
According to World Bank data for 2021, Ethiopia is the second-most populated country in Africa with an approximated 120 million citizens. In the financial year 2020/2021, the country recorded a 6.3 per cent growth; the strongest on the continent during the said period. Over the past 15 years, Ethiopia’s economy has been among the fastest growing globally at an average of 9.5 per cent per year. Even with the continued strong and positive growth, the country still faces gaps in human capital.
Development of human capital is one of the key partnership areas where SBS and CBS seek to collaborate; in the bid to create an ecosystem for talent development in Ethiopia. Further, through this partnership, the two institutions work to upskill executives in Ethiopian Investments Holdings (EIH), traditional multinational corporations and young Ethiopian firms. The partnership will also seek to leverage the Africa Continental Free Trade Area Agreement (AfCFTA) to create more business opportunities between Kenya and Ethiopia.
Strathmore University Business School (SBS) is one of the schools in Strathmore University that has taken the responsibility of influencing the leadership of public and private sectors across the continent. Using a mix of locally relevant projects, case studies and well-selected international collaborations and partnerships, it seeks to transform society through the development of international executive business management and leadership programmes.
