After a two-year hiatus, the Senior Management Leadership Programme (SMLP) returned to Singapore. On the 17th of October 2022, the largest SMLP Class kicked off the international Module of the 4-Module Programme at the internationally acclaimed Business School at Nanyang Technical University in Singapore. The SMLP class of 2022 has a rich participant mix featuring four nationalities; Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
This Module sought to expose participants to global trends, innovation practices and challenges, as well as leadership through periods of growth and turbulence. In this year’s sessions, special emphasis was placed on the emergence and relevance of Asian business to the African continent.
The week-long part of the Programme saw the participants interact with leading international faculty from the Executive Centre situated at the Nanyang Business School – Singapore. After missing out in 2020 and 2021, the participants and faculty were eager to bring their learnings from the period.
The Module covered various topics in global macroeconomic trends, including; understanding consumer insights in Asia, negotiations across boundaries, and nurturing and growing business ventures. There was also a session on understanding Sun Zi Bingfa – strategic leadership, leading the Asian way. The sessions included one-on-one interactions, group discussions and negotiation sessions staged by the participants.
The Module included a cultural immersion tour of the city of Singapore where the participants visited the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) of Singapore, Huawei AI and DigiX Lab as well as a city tour of the different landmarks of the city, including the Gardens by the Bay, Little India, and Chinatown. This was an opportunity to see what the city-state has achieved in just under sixty years of independence. The state remains a global and regional hub for transport and logistics in air, sea and freight.
The week-long Programme was also privileged to welcome the Consul of Kenya to Singapore, Mr Neal Manilal Chandaria. Mr Chandaria also sits on the board of Innotek Limited, which is a listed company on the Singapore Stock Exchange. He shared his experience of doing business in Singapore and South-East Asia. He implored the business leaders and executives to pursue opportunities that arise in agri-business, transport and logistics, technology, and urban development.
The Programme culminated in a cross-border visit to Malaysia’s biggest city, Kuala Lumpur, to learn and immerse in the differences between the two towns and economies.
The Senior Management Leadership Programme makes for truly transformational learning experiences. These prepare senior executives to take on additional and strategic responsibilities at the highest level. It aids them to view the business from a holistic point of view. It continues to offer executives abilities on informed insights and analysis of complex business issues in a continually changing geo-political environment. The final Programme resumes in the third week of November 2022 for the final Module before graduation, which will take place on 2nd December 2022.
